HELP KEEP THE UIC SICKLE CELL CENTER OPEN

The University of Illinois Comprehensive Sickle Cell Center will be fighting to keep its doors open if Governor Quinn gets his way! The University of Illinois at Chicago is the home of the only facility in the world that does community education, research, and treatment through a dedicated comprehensive care center for Sickle Cell Disease that includes an acute care unit that treats uncomplicated pain crisis. Monies from the settlement of a national lawsuit against the tobacco industry have been used to support the center at UIC.

Governor Quinn is trying to get an advance on or sell monies from the tobacco settlement to balance the state’s budget. A similar proposal by the governor of Ohio was ruled illegal by the courts in that state. Please urge your state representatives, senators and Governor Quinn to restore the funding for the center by signing this electronic petition. Furthermore, please call your state representatives and Governor Quinn and tell them to restore the funding for the center.
